Is it worth the risk ?

It can sometimes seem as if Wedding insurance is the elephant in the corner when it comes to organising a wedding… Everyone knows it is an option but no one really wants to talk about it or admit to the fact that it might be needed. There is of course some truth in this belief as nine times out of ten nothing unforeseen does happen at a wedding and the premium paid for the insurance is never needed. The reality is however that there is no way of knowing in advance if you will need insurance or not and for a relatively small sum of money you can buy the security of being sure that if something unplanned does happen you will be re-reimbursed for the mishap.

Take the example of one of our lovely April brides who married here in Nerja. The church was booked, and the villa too. Catering was organised along with music, flowers, a photographer and beauty. Guests had arrived and we had double checked all arrangements for the day. The day of the wedding dawned bright and sunny….. Alas the bride was not feeling so bright and sunny. She was feeling distinctly under the weather with severe abdominal pains which meant a swift trip to a nearby hospital - and a diagnosis of appendicitis!!

In this situation we sprang into action alerting vendors and checking what could be done at this stage. Thankfully the bride and groom had taken out insurance so although some things could not be saved they were able to claim some money back for the changes. In the event the caterers made the wedding meal into a “pre wedding dinner” for guests and when the bride was out of hospital a few days later the ceremony and a quieter party took place then too. Not quite the wedding day the couple or their guests expected but not the disaster it could have been either. It is unlikely that the unforeseen will come along and change your wedding day this much but for the sake of the average insurance premium 50 – 150€ is it really worth the risk?
