About Nerja:

Nerja is on the seashore some 50 kilometres from Málaga on the N340 coastal highway, and marks the eastern tip of Málaga's Costa del Sol.
Nerja boasts 16 kilometers of beaches with powdery sand and sparkling clear water. All major water sports are available here, including water skiing, scuba diving and sailing. Flanked by a dramatic mountain range, Sierra Almijara, to the east, the town has, fortunately, managed to avoid being blighted by the concrete high-rise scenario which has been the inevitable result of the tourist boom in some of the coastal resorts. The old quarter of the town is still virtually unchanged with narrow, winding streets, whitewashed houses with wrought iron terraces overflowing with geraniums, on which a canary can sometimes be heard singing...

However, the heart of Nerja is its spectacular Balcón de Europa, the "Balcony of Europe", a magnificent promenade along the edge of a towering cliff, once the site of the great Moorish castle, with sweeping panoramic views of the Mediterranean and the small coves and beaches below, against an awesome backdrop of hazy blue mountains.

What will the weather be like?

Regarded as the most attractive, well kept resort on the Costa del Sol, and considered to have the best all year round climate in Europe,
Nerja is a delightful and unspoiled seaside town, which lies east Malaga. The area is one of outstanding beauty, with a tropical valley where avocado and olive trees grow in abundance and a dramatic back drop of the majestic Sierra Almijara mountain range.

There are numerous car companies at the airport. They will provide you with a map and directions to Nerja. Alternatively contact Jennifer for budget car hire for airport collection.

By Bus:

You will need to take an airport/city bus into Malaga bus station which is about €1.00 – pay on the bus.  The bus stop is found by turning right out of the arrivals doors, (not left towards the 'Golf Bar') right again past the taxis and approx 75metres along the pavement there is an area marked 'Bus Urbano'. The bus runs every half hour on the hour or 30 minutes past.

This gets you into the bus station in Malaga, and you won't know you're there until you go through a barrier. Walk around the various bays into the main concourse and find the 'Alsina Graells' office. Here you have to purchase your ticket for the next bus to Nerja, which should have a departure time on it and will cost about €3.50. It might not have a departure bay number however, but if you walk down the concourse to the right from the Alsina Graells office you'll find a bar (“,) and the bays that the majority of buses for Nerja depart from are around there (bays 38 or 39). Usually look out for an end display board on the bus showing a destination of Nerja/Cuevas.

Luggage storage doors are usually open on the bus - we would advise trying to get a seat just above where you've placed the cases and then keep an eye open when the bus stops on the way through.  You might get a 'directo' bus which runs through (almost) directly, it's a lot quicker but limits drop off points considerably.  The bus station in Nerja is, at the moment, two lay-bys on either side of the road. ALL buses stop here.  It is about 15 mins walk to most of the accommodation we have detailed (Hostel San Miguel is only 2 blocks).

If you decide you want a taxi, instead of the 15mins walk, cut through the road half way down the south side of the bus station, and follow it through a sharp left turn. At the next junction (calle San Miguel), turn right and walk down there, passing Mercadona supermarket on your right and the Guardia Civil base on your left. You'll then get to a taxi rank on your right.
